Catching the Dreams of Tomorrow, Preparing Young Women for the 21st Century

The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is a program developed to address the pressing need to support young girls aged 11-14, particularly in preventing academic failure, boosting self-esteem, and securing brighter futures. Named in honor of Dr. Betty Shabazz, this initiative is designed to enrich and enhance the education of young teens, with a focus on improving their proficiency in math, science, and technology.

The academy is a key initiative by the Dillon-Marion County Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and aims to provide students with the tools they need to become confident, capable leaders. The program also emphasizes service learning, which includes the cultivation and maintenance of relationships that foster leadership skills.

A primary goal of the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is to equip young women with the skills, knowledge, and mindset necessary for full participation as leaders in the 21st century. Through this program, participants are given the opportunity to excel academically, develop strong leadership capabilities, and understand the importance of community service.
